ARLINGTON, Texas (Interstat) — The Golden State Valkyries and Dallas Wings meet Friday in a WNBA showdown between two of the league’s top teams. Golden State (20-9) visits College Park Center in Arlington, Texas, holding the better record of the two. Dallas (19-11) sits one game behind. The teams have played once this season, with the Valkyries winning 91-80 on June 17. Golden State enters on the strength of a 96-79 victory over Toronto on Aug. 2. Center Kiah Stokes was a force in that game, playing 32 minutes and finishing with 8 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks. Stokes has been a steady defensive presence, recording multiple blocks in four of her past six games, including two-block efforts in both games against Washington during a July home stretch. Dallas also won its most recent game, beating Connecticut 83-63 on Aug. 2. Guard Arike Ogunbowale led the way with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in only 23 minutes. Ogunbowale has been one of the WNBA’s most consistent scorers, reaching at least 20 points in five of her past seven games, including a 29-point outing against New York on July 20 and 24 points against Atlanta on July 29. The Wings have averaged strong offensive production, with back-to-back 100-point games in early July, including a 108-95 win at Toronto on July 10. Golden State, meanwhile, has held opponents below 90 points in nine of its last 10 games. Friday’s game is the middle stretch of a tight season series. The Wings and Valkyries will meet again Aug. 17 in Golden State. Dallas also begins a challenging road stretch after Friday, traveling to Minnesota on Aug. 9 before returning home to face Toronto. A computer simulation projects Dallas to win 95-86. The Wings will lean on Ogunbowale’s scoring, while Golden State will look to Stokes to anchor the paint and slow Dallas’ attack.
