SAN FRANCISCO (Interstat) — The Golden State Valkyries, owners of the WNBA’s best record, host the Washington Mystics on Monday night at Chase Center in a matchup of teams heading in opposite directions. Golden State (18-7) brings a five-game winning streak into the contest, most recently an 88-75 victory at Indiana on Wednesday. The Valkyries have won seven of their last eight, with their only loss in that span a 92-73 defeat at Las Vegas on June 21. Golden State is 10-3 at home this season. Washington (12-11) has dropped two straight, including a 75-56 loss to Portland on Thursday in which the Mystics shot 33% from the field. The Mystics are 5-6 on the road. Monday’s game is the second meeting between the teams this season. Golden State won the first matchup 62-49 on July 6 in Washington, limiting the Mystics to 29.6% shooting. Mystics center Shakira Austin has been a consistent force. In her last five games, she has posted double-doubles in three, averaging 17.2 points and 10.2 rebounds over that stretch. She recorded 11 points and 11 rebounds against Golden State on July 6. Valkyries forward Gabby Williams has provided steady production. She scored 16 points against Indiana on Wednesday and is averaging 12.5 points over her last four games. Williams struggled against Washington earlier this month, finishing with two points in 17 minutes. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 94-82 Golden State victory. After Monday, Washington returns home to face Las Vegas on Tuesday. Golden State has a week off before visiting Phoenix on July 29.
