PREVIEW: Lynx Host Sparks in Key WNBA Showdown MINNEAPOLIS (Interstat) — The Minnesota Lynx will look to extend their dominance over the Los Angeles Sparks when the teams meet Wednesday afternoon at Target Center. The Lynx (17-6) enter the game in a strong position atop the standings, while the Sparks (10-11) are fighting to climb above the .500 mark. Minnesota will be seeking its second home victory against Los Angeles this season, following a 99-83 win on June 17. Forward Natasha Howard has been a consistent force for Minnesota. In her most recent outing, a 90-85 victory over New York on July 11, Howard contributed 16 points and nine rebounds in 36 minutes. Over her last three games, Howard is averaging 15.3 points and 8.3 rebounds. She recorded 15 points and nine rebounds in the June 17 win over the Sparks. The Sparks counter with veteran forward Nneka Ogwumike, who has been on a scoring surge. Over her last two games, Ogwumike is averaging 24.5 points and 10 rebounds. She posted 25 points and 12 rebounds in Los Angeles’ 102-87 victory over Chicago on July 10, and 24 points and eight rebounds in a win over Indiana on July 8. Ogwumike scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the June 17 loss to Minnesota. Los Angeles is coming off a two-game winning streak at home, but has struggled on the road this season. The Sparks are 4-6 away from home. Minnesota, meanwhile, has been strong at Target Center, posting an 8-3 home record. The Sparks’ offense has been potent recently, scoring at least 100 points in their last two games. However, their defense remains a concern, allowing an average of 102.5 points in those contests. Minnesota’s balanced attack has been a hallmark of their success. In their win over New York, guard Kayla McBride scored 25 points and rookie Olivia Miles added 23 points and five assists. An Interstat’s game simulator projects a 96-78 victory for Minnesota. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. CDT.
