INDIANAPOLIS (Interstat) — The Golden State Valkyries and Indiana Fever meet Wednesday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in a WNBA matchup featuring two of the league’s top teams. Golden State (17-7) holds the second-best record in the league, riding a six-game winning streak after a 79-64 victory at Connecticut on Friday. Indiana (14-9) has won three of its last four, including a 109-75 rout of Las Vegas on Sunday. The teams split their two previous meetings this season, each winning on home court. Indiana won 90-82 on May 22 in Indianapolis, and Golden State answered with a 90-88 victory in San Francisco on May 28. Forward Janelle Salaun has been a key catalyst for the Valkyries. In her last three games, all wins, she averaged 16.7 points and 4.7 rebounds. She posted 26 points and six rebounds in an 83-75 victory at Toronto on July 8, then followed with 16 points and seven rebounds against Connecticut. Center Aliyah Boston leads Indiana. She recorded 19 points, 11 rebounds and four assists in the win over Las Vegas, her third double-double in the past four games. Boston is averaging 18.8 points and 9.5 rebounds over her last four outings. Golden State’s defense has been stout during its streak, allowing an average of 67.8 points per game. Indiana’s offense exploded for 109 points against the Aces, with guards Kelsey Mitchell (27 points) and Sophie Cunningham (20 points) joining Boston in double figures. According to Interstat’s game simulator, Indiana is projected to win 93-83. The Fever will look to build momentum before a tough stretch that includes home games against Seattle and New York later this week. Golden State returns home to face Washington on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EDT.
