PHOENIX (Interstat) — The surging Las Vegas Aces host the Indiana Fever on Sunday at Mortgage Matchup Center in a rematch of a July 5 contest that saw the Fever hand the Aces one of their six losses this season. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. EDT. Las Vegas (17-6) returns home after a dominant 106-58 victory over Phoenix on Saturday, its eighth win in nine games. The Aces sit atop the WNBA standings behind a balanced attack led by forward A’ja Wilson. Wilson recorded her second consecutive double-double against the Mercury, finishing with 21 points and 15 rebounds in just 25 minutes. Over her last three games, Wilson is averaging 27.7 points and 12.3 rebounds, including a 32-point, 10-rebound performance against Portland on July 9. Indiana (13-9) enters on a two-game winning streak after edging Phoenix 92-89 on Thursday and avenging its loss to Los Angeles with a 92-68 rout of the Sparks on July 8. Guard Kelsey Mitchell has been the catalyst, scoring 29 points in each of those victories. Against the Mercury, she added eight assists and two rebounds, and she posted 27 points, two rebounds and three assists in the Fever’s 84-68 win over the Aces on July 5. Mitchell has scored at least 22 points in eight of her last nine games, including a 30-point outing against Phoenix on June 24 despite a 111-109 loss. She leads the Fever with 24.8 points per game over that stretch. The Fever will look to exploit a Las Vegas defense that allowed 106 points in a loss to Dallas on June 15 but has held opponents under 80 points in three of its last four outings. Indiana, meanwhile, has allowed 106 or more points in four of its last seven games but clamped down on the Aces in their last meeting, holding Las Vegas to 31.7% shooting from the field. Sunday’s game marks the first of two meetings between the teams this month, with the Aces traveling to Indiana on Aug. 6. The Interstat game simulator projects a 95-84 Las Vegas victory. In addition to Wilson, the Aces got a lift Saturday from guard Justine Pissott, who scored 19 points off the bench, and forward Cheyenne Parker-Tyus, who added 15 points and seven rebounds. For Indiana, center Aliyah Boston contributed 21 points and nine rebounds in Thursday’s win, while guard Tyasha Harris added 15 points and five assists. After Sunday, the Fever embark on a seven-game homestand beginning Wednesday against Golden State, while the Aces hit the road for a four-game trip starting Monday at Toronto.
