The Valkyries are coming off a 62-49 road win against the Washington Mystics on Monday, a game in which they held their opponent to just 49 points. Kaitlyn Chen led the team with 14 points in that victory. Connecticut (5-16) has struggled to find consistency. The Sun earned a narrow 90-89 win at the Minnesota Lynx on Monday, snapping a three-game losing streak. Brittney Griner starred in that contest, posting 29 points and 10 rebounds. Friday’s matchup features two of the league’s premier post players: Golden State center Kiah Stokes and Connecticut center Brittney Griner. Stokes, a defensive anchor for the Valkyries, has been a steady contributor on both ends. Over her last 10 games, she has averaged 3.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per contest. She recorded season highs of 13 points and seven blocks in a 78-75 win over Atlanta on June 26. Stokes also pulled down nine rebounds in the team’s win at Washington on July 6. Their only loss in that stretch came at Las Vegas on June 21. The Sun have split their last two games after dropping five in a row. They are 2-6 at home this season.
