UNCASVILLE, Conn. (Interstat) — The Minnesota Lynx visit the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday at Mohegan Sun Arena in a WNBA matchup that features two teams headed in opposite directions. Minnesota (15-5) sits atop the standings, winners of six of their last seven games. The Lynx fell 99-86 at New York on Friday despite 16 points, five rebounds and three assists from guard Courtney Williams, who had 21 points, 12 rebounds and five assists in a win over Golden State on June 19. Connecticut (4-16) is tied for last in the league after an 86-83 home loss to Dallas on Thursday. Guard Leila Lacan scored 18 points with five assists in that defeat, continuing her recent surge after a rugged start to the season. The teams met Monday, when Connecticut posted an 11-9 victory over Minnesota in what was likely the lowest-scoring game in league history. The win snapped a five-game skid for the Sun. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 99-95 Minnesota victory Wednesday. Williams is the key for Minnesota. The Lynx guard has scored in double figures in nine of her last 10 games, averaging 14.9 points over that stretch. She has posted at least five rebounds in five of those contests and dished out three or more assists seven times. Her all-around production has been vital for a Lynx team that leads the league in offensive efficiency. Lacan has been Connecticut’s most consistent threat. The guard has scored at least 11 points in seven consecutive games, including a 24-point effort June 10 at Toronto and an 18-point showing against Dallas on Thursday. She has recorded five or more assists in five of those seven outings. The Sun will need Lacan to carry the load against a stingy Minnesota defense that ranks second in the league in points allowed per game. Minnesota opens a three-game series at Seattle on Monday. The Lynx then play Toronto in three consecutive home games starting July 26. Connecticut hosts Golden State on Friday before traveling to Phoenix for a two-game set beginning July 17.
