MINNEAPOLIS (Interstat) — The Minnesota Lynx, owners of the WNBA’s second-best record, host the struggling Connecticut Sun on Monday at Target Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CDT. Minnesota (15-5) looks to bounce back from a 99-86 loss at New York on Friday. The Lynx have won six of their last eight games and boast a dominant 9-2 home record. Connecticut (4-16) has lost five of its last six, including an 86-83 defeat to Dallas on Thursday. The Sun are 1-11 on the road this season. Players to watch Connecticut guard Leila Lacan has been a bright spot for the Sun. In her last eight games, the guard has scored in double figures seven times, averaging 15.0 points and 4.0 assists. She had 18 points and five assists in the loss to Dallas on July 2 and 24 points with seven assists against Toronto on June 10. Minnesota guard Courtney Williams is a do-it-all threat. Over her last 10 games, Williams is averaging 14.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists. She posted 21 points, 12 rebounds and five assists in a win at Golden State on June 19 and had 17 points and five rebounds in a narrow loss to Las Vegas on June 13. Matchup The Lynx rank among the league leaders in scoring defense and offensive efficiency. Connecticut ranks near the bottom in both categories. In the teams’ most recent meeting (Interstat) — a 77-66 Minnesota win on June 30 (Interstat) — Williams scored 18 points and the Lynx held the Sun to 35% shooting. Minnesota’s balanced attack features Kayla McBride (18 points vs. New York) and rookie Olivia Miles (14 points, five rebounds, five assists against the Liberty). Brittney Griner leads Connecticut inside, posting 13 points and 11 rebounds in the loss to Dallas. Projection Interstat’s game simulator projects a 96-79 Minnesota victory.
