ROSEMONT, Ill. (Interstat) — The two-time defending champion Las Vegas Aces, owners of the WNBA’s best record, visit the struggling Chicago Sky on Sunday afternoon at Allstate Arena. The Aces (13-5) enter on the heels of a 99-84 victory over Dallas on Thursday, a game in which star center A’ja Wilson posted 32 points and nine rebounds. Las Vegas has won eight of its last 10, a run built on one of the league’s most potent offenses. The Sky (5-12), by contrast, have lost eight of nine, though they delivered a rare bright spot Wednesday with a 101-78 rout of Portland. A primary focus Sunday will be Las Vegas guard Jackie Young, who has been an ironman and a consistent offensive force. Over her last 10 games, Young has scored at least 16 points nine times, including a 29-point outburst against Seattle on June 8. In Thursday’s win, she logged 32 minutes, finishing with 20 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Young is averaging 19.2 points across that 10-game span while shooting efficiently from the floor. Chicago’s hopes rest heavily on rookie center Kamilla Cardoso, who tallied 13 points and eight rebounds in Wednesday’s victory. Cardoso has shown flashes of dominance: a 26-point, nine-rebound performance in a one-point loss to Dallas on June 20, and a 16-point, 14-rebound outing against Connecticut on June 22 despite the loss. However, the Sky have struggled to contain opposing interior scorers, and Las Vegas boasts versatile weapons inside and out. Sunday’s game also offers a chance for Chicago to reverse a trend of close defeats. Four of the Sky’s last six losses have come by single digits, most recently a 96-95 defeat at New York on June 17. A statistical simulation projects another tight finish, with Las Vegas winning 96-95. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. ET. The teams will meet again July 3 in Las Vegas.
