INDIANAPOLIS (Interstat) — The Indiana Fever host the Los Angeles Sparks on Saturday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in a matchup of WNBA teams jockeying for playoff positioning. Indiana (10-8) enters the game holding a half-game lead for the seed in the league standings, while Los Angeles (8-9) sits just outside the playoff picture in ninth place. The game tips off at 7 p.m. EDT. The Fever defeated the Sparks 87-78 in Los Angeles on May 13 in the teams’ only previous meeting this season. Indiana guard Kelsey Mitchell has been the Fever’s offensive engine over the past two weeks. Mitchell has scored at least 19 points in eight consecutive games, including a 30-point, six-assist performance in a 111-109 overtime loss to Phoenix on Wednesday. She followed that with 22 points in a win over the Mercury on Monday. For the season, Mitchell is averaging 22.8 points and ranks among the league leaders in 3-point shooting. Fever center Aliyah Boston contributed 23 points, nine rebounds and five assists in the loss to Phoenix, while rookie guard Caitlin Clark added 19 points and eight assists in 20 minutes. Los Angeles is coming off a 125-97 blowout loss at Toronto on Thursday, its most lopsided defeat of the season. The Sparks have lost four of their last five games, including three straight road contests against Western Conference opponents. Forwards Dearica Hamby and Nneka Ogwumike, along with guard Rae Burrell, led the Sparks in scoring against Toronto. Saturday’s game is the first of two meetings between the teams in a 12-day span. The Fever travel to Los Angeles on July 8. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 92-85 Indiana victory.
