SEATTLE (Interstat) — The Atlanta Dream, owners of the WNBA’s second-best record, visit the Seattle Storm on Saturday at Key Arena, a matchup of teams heading in opposite directions. Atlanta (12-5) enters the 3 p.m. PDT tipoff on a downturn, having lost its most recent outing 77-66 at Golden State on Wednesday. The Dream had won four of five before that defeat and remain atop the Eastern Conference standings. Seattle (4-15) snapped a nine-game losing streak Thursday with a 99-88 home win over New York, its first victory since June 1. Madina Okot is a player to watch for Atlanta. The center has been productive in limited minutes recently, posting 16 points and five rebounds in 19 minutes against Golden State, and 18 points and seven rebounds in 18 minutes in a 94-87 win at Toronto on June 22. Though her playing time has been inconsistent — she logged four minutes or fewer in three of Atlanta’s previous five games — Okot has shown efficiency when on the floor, scoring in double figures in three of her last four outings. Flau’jae Johnson leads Seattle’s resurgence. The guard logged a team-high 28 points, nine rebounds and two assists in 33 minutes against New York, continuing a heavy workload that has defined her season. Johnson has played at least 29 minutes in eight of her last nine games, averaging 25.6 minutes across that stretch. She posted 11 points, five rebounds and nine assists in a 112-110 overtime loss at Dallas on June 22. Other contributors for Atlanta include forward Angel Reese, who had 10 points and 12 rebounds against Golden State, and guard Rhyne Howard, who added 12 points. For Seattle, center Dominique Malonga recorded 20 points and 10 rebounds in the win over New York, while guard Jade Melbourne contributed 18 points and seven assists. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 99-94 Atlanta victory. The teams meet again July 9 in Atlanta.
