WNBA: Liberty at Aces PHOENIX (Interstat) — The New York Liberty and Las Vegas Aces, two of the WNBA’s top teams, meet Tuesday at Mortgage Matchup Center in a potential Commissioner’s Cup preview. New York (11-5) enters the 7 p.m. PDT tipoff after a 86-83 loss to Washington on Friday. Las Vegas (12-4) defeated Golden State 92-73 on Sunday in its most recent outing. The Aces are the designated home team despite playing in Phoenix due to arena availability. The Liberty are led by forward Breanna Stewart, who has posted five double-doubles in her last six games. Stewart scored 28 points with nine rebounds against Connecticut on June 8 and had 30 points and eight rebounds against Indiana on June 6. In the loss to the Mystics, she finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Las Vegas counters with center A’ja Wilson, who is averaging 28.4 points and 11.4 rebounds over her last five games. She had 33 points and 10 rebounds against Phoenix on June 17, and followed with 19 points and nine boards against Golden State. The Aces have won four of their last five, with the lone blemish a 96-66 loss at Dallas on June 15. The Liberty are 7-3 in their last 10 games. Key contributors for New York include forward Leonie Fiebich (19 points vs. Washington) and center Jonquel Jones, who had 10 points and 10 rebounds in that game. For Las Vegas, guard Jackie Young scored 21 points against Golden State, and guard Chelsea Gray added 15 points and nine assists. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 95-84 Las Vegas victory. The Aces lead the all-time series and have won two of three meetings this season. Tuesday’s game begins a stretch where both teams play nine games over the next month before the Olympic break. New York travels to Seattle on Thursday, while Las Vegas hosts Dallas on Thursday.
