WNBA: Sky at Sun UNCASVILLE, Conn. (Interstat) — The Chicago Sky visit the Connecticut Sun on Monday, June 22, at Mohegan Sun Arena in a matchup of two WNBA teams searching for traction in the standings. Chicago enters with a 4-10 record across all competitions, while Connecticut sits at 2-15. Both are mired in losing streaks, with the Sky having dropped eight of their past nine and the Sun losing 10 straight after their lone victory May 30 against Los Angeles. A bright spot for Chicago has been guard Gabriela Jaquez, who delivered a season-best 22 points, three rebounds and three assists in Wednesday’s narrow 96-95 loss to New York. That performance followed a 3-point outing against Atlanta and an 11-point effort at Toronto, though Jaquez has shot inconsistently during a recent four-game slide. For Connecticut, center Brittney Griner remains the focal point. The veteran posted 16 points, eight rebounds and two blocks in Friday’s 101-97 loss to Toronto, continuing a stretch of strong play despite the team’s struggles. Griner recorded a double-double against Chicago on June 5, finishing with 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists in an 85-80 loss to the Sky. That game marked the most recent head-to-head meeting, in which Chicago held Connecticut to 37.8% shooting. The Sky’s Skylar Diggins controlled the game with eight assists, while former Sun guard Courtney Williams contributed 14 points. Both teams are desperate for a victory. Chicago’s offense has averaged 89.2 points during its losing streak but has allowed 96.4 per game. Connecticut’s defense has been porous, surrendering 88.5 points per contest over its skid. Monday’s game will be Chicago’s final road contest before a two-game homestand against Portland starting Wednesday. Connecticut returns to Uncasville for a six-game homestand following this contest, including matchups with Washington and Dallas. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 103-95 victory for Chicago.
