MINNEAPOLIS (Interstat) — The Minnesota Lynx look to extend their dominant start to the season when they host the Washington Mystics on Sunday at Target Center. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. EDT. Minnesota owns the WNBA’s best record at 12-3, riding a wave of offensive firepower led by guard Olivia Miles. The Lynx have won three straight games by an average of 19.3 points, including a 99-83 victory at Los Angeles on Wednesday in which Miles erupted for 31 points on 13-of-19 shooting in just 26 minutes. Washington (6-7) enters the contest with modest momentum after snapping a two-game skid with an 88-81 win at Connecticut on Wednesday. The Mystics have struggled for consistency, posting alternating wins and losses over their last eight games. Miles has been a near-unstoppable force for Minnesota, scoring at least 17 points in all nine games this season. The guard is averaging 27.3 points over her last three outings, shooting 52% from the field during that stretch. She also recorded 28 points, seven assists and three blocks in a win over Golden State on June 4. Sonia Citron leads Washington’s attack. The guard posted her third double-double of the season against Connecticut with 26 points and 12 rebounds in 38 minutes. Citron has scored at least 12 points in eight of her last nine games, including a 21-point effort at Los Angeles on May 29. She leads the Mystics in minutes played and has been the team’s most consistent scoring threat. Washington’s frontcourt will need to contend with Minnesota’s Natasha Howard, who added 15 points and nine rebounds in the win over Los Angeles. The Lynx also received contributions from Nia Coffey, who had seven points, six rebounds and two assists. The Mystics are 2-5 on the road this season, while the Lynx are 6-1 at home. Minnesota has won six of its last seven games overall. These teams will meet again Wednesday in Washington, giving the Mystics a chance to adjust after Sunday’s matchup. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 96-75 victory for Minnesota. Washington will look to slow Minnesota’s transition game, where the Lynx have thrived all season. The Mystics will also need to limit second-chance points after allowing Connecticut to grab 14 offensive rebounds in Wednesday’s game. For Minnesota, containing Citron’s mid-range game and preventing her from creating for teammates will be a priority. The Lynx have held opponents to 78.3 points per game over their last four contests.
