WNBA: Liberty at Sparks NEW YORK (Interstat) — The New York Liberty, winners of seven straight, visit the Los Angeles Sparks on Sunday at Crypto.com Arena in a matchup of WNBA teams heading in opposite directions. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. EDT. New York (11-4) holds the second-best record in the league, fueled by an offense averaging 90.9 points over its past five games. The Liberty last lost May 25 to Portland and have since rattled off victories over Dallas, Phoenix (twice), Toronto, Indiana, Connecticut, Atlanta, Washington and Chicago. Their most recent win came Wednesday, a 96-95 nail-biter at Chicago in which Breanna Stewart scored 17 points and Satou Sabally added 17 off the bench. Los Angeles (7-8) sits just outside playoff position in the Western Conference. The Sparks have dropped three of their last four, including a 99-83 home loss to Minnesota on Wednesday. Rae Burrell led L.A. with 19 points in that game, while forward Dearica Hamby posted 12 points and nine rebounds. Player to watch for New York is forward-center Jonquel Jones, who has been dominant in the Liberty’s winning streak. In her last five games, Jones averaged 17.0 points, 9.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists while shooting efficiently. She recorded a 22-point, 17-rebound outing against Toronto on June 3 and followed with 20 points and four rebounds against Washington on June 14. Her versatility in the post and pick-and-pop game creates mismatches. For Los Angeles, Hamby remains the engine. The veteran forward has posted double-doubles in two of her last five appearances, including a 22-point, 12-rebound effort in a June 7 win over Portland. She also dished nine assists in a win over Washington on May 29. Hamby’s ability to score inside and facilitate from the high post will be critical against a Liberty defense that ranks third in opponents’ field-goal percentage. New York leads the series historically, but the Sparks have won two of the last three meetings at Crypto.com Arena. The Liberty are looking to extend their best start since 2023, while Los Angeles seeks to halt a slide that has seen its defensive rating dip to 105.2 over the past week. The game also marks the second of a four-game road trip for New York, which visits Las Vegas on Tuesday before heading to Seattle and Golden State. Los Angeles begins a three-game road trip of its own Thursday at Toronto. Sunday’s contest will air nationally on ESPN.
