MINNEAPOLIS (Interstat) β€” The Minnesota Lynx look to extend their dominant start to the season when they host the Portland Fire on Monday night at Target Center. Minnesota (10-2) owns the best record in the WNBA and has won nine of its past 10 games after a 100-76 victory over Dallas on June 9. The Lynx have been particularly potent at home, where they have not lost since the season opener. A key factor in that success has been the play of guard Olivia Miles, who has been on a tear of late. Miles recorded 24 points, seven rebounds and six assists against Dallas, part of a stretch in which she has scored at least 14 points in nine consecutive games. Over her past five outings, the former Notre Dame star is averaging 21.4 points and 6.8 assists while shooting efficiently. Miles scored a season-high 28 points in a win over Golden State on June 4. Portland (6-8) arrives in Minneapolis on a four-game losing streak, most recently falling 105-89 to Las Vegas on June 11. The Fire have struggled defensively during the skid, allowing an average of 91.8 points per game. Guard Carla Leite has been a bright spot for Portland, recording 18 points and eight assists in that loss to the Aces. The French rookie has scored in double figures in eight of her last 10 games and posted a 12-assist performance against Indiana on May 30. However, Leite will face a stiff challenge against a Minnesota defense that ranks among the league leaders in opponent field-goal percentage. Minnesota has won both meetings between the teams this season, and Interstat’s game simulator projects a 96-75 Lynx victory. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. Monday. The Lynx continue a homestand that includes games against Los Angeles and Golden State later this week, while Portland heads to Chicago after this road trip.
