SAN FRANCISCO (Interstat) — The Golden State Valkyries host the Los Angeles Sparks in a WNBA matchup Monday night at Chase Center, with both teams seeking to build momentum ahead of a busy stretch on their respective schedules. Golden State (8-5) enters the contest riding a two-game winning streak after a 76-72 road victory over the Seattle Storm on Friday. Forward Janelle Salaun led the Valkyries with 22 points and seven rebounds in 33 minutes, continuing a productive stretch that has seen her average 17.7 points over her last three appearances. Salaun, a key two-way presence for Golden State, has scored in double figures in eight of her last nine games, including a 19-point, seven-rebound outing against Indiana on May 28. The Valkyries have been strong at home this season, and their depth has been a factor. Guard Veronica Burton contributed 11 points, eight assists and five rebounds against Seattle, while veteran guard Tiffany Hayes added 17 points. Golden State’s offense has averaged 86.2 points over its last five games, though the defense allowed 84 or more in two of its three prior losses. Los Angeles (6-6) arrives after an 88-83 win at Seattle on Wednesday, snapping a three-game skid for the Sparks. Forward Nneka Ogwumike posted a double-double with 24 points and nine rebounds, continuing her dominant recent form. Over her last four games, Ogwumike has averaged 17.3 points and 12.0 rebounds, with three double-doubles in that span. The Sparks also got strong contributions from guard Kelsey Plum (19 points, 11 assists) and forward Cameron Brink (15 points, six rebounds, two blocks) in the win. The Sparks have been inconsistent away from home, splitting their last four road contests. Los Angeles has relied heavily on Ogwumike’s frontline production, but the team’s perimeter defense has been vulnerable, allowing 100 or more points in two of its last four losses. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 94-84 victory for Golden State. The Valkyries’ balanced scoring and home-court advantage give them an edge, but Ogwumike’s ability to control the paint could keep Los Angeles within striking distance. Following Monday’s game, the Sparks host Minnesota on Wednesday, while Golden State welcomes Dallas.
