ATLANTA (Interstat) — The Atlanta Dream host the New York Liberty on Thursday night at State Farm Arena in a matchup of two of the WNBA’s top early-season teams. Atlanta enters with a 7-3 record, coming off a 109-77 rout of the Washington Mystics on Saturday. The Dream had won three of their last four before the contest. Rookie forward Angel Reese has been a force on the glass, averaging 17.5 points and 12.3 rebounds over her last six games. In Saturday’s win, Reese posted 18 points and 17 rebounds in 25 minutes. Rhyne Howard added 19 points, and Allisha Gray chipped in 15 points and five assists. New York (8-4) carries a three-game winning streak into the game, most recently beating the Connecticut Sun 89-80 on Monday. Forward Breanna Stewart led the Liberty with 28 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Stewart has been productive throughout June, averaging 25.7 points and 8.7 rebounds in her last three games. The Liberty have alternated wins and losses over a longer stretch, going 6-4 in their last 10 contests. Thursday’s game features two of the league’s most impactful forwards. Stewart has scored at least 25 points in four of her last six outings, including a 30-point, eight-rebound performance against Indiana on June 6. Reese, meanwhile, has recorded double-doubles in four of her last five games. Her activity on the offensive glass — she grabbed seven offensive rebounds against Washington — will test New York’s interior defense. The Liberty have struggled on the road this season, splitting their first four away games. Atlanta is 4-1 at State Farm Arena. The Interstat game simulator projects a 95-82 victory for the Dream. After Thursday, New York travels to face the Washington Mystics on Sunday, while Atlanta visits the Toronto Tempo on Sunday. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EDT.
