UNCASVILLE, Conn. (Interstat) — The New York Liberty look to continue their dominance over the Connecticut Sun when the teams meet Monday at Mohegan Sun Arena. New York (6-4) has won four of its last five games and enters with a 106-75 victory over Connecticut on May 8 — the two teams’ only previous meeting this season. The Liberty, who rank among the WNBA’s top offensive clubs, are coming off a 97-82 win Wednesday over Toronto in which forward Breanna Stewart scored 19 points and Jonquel Jones posted 22 points and 17 rebounds. Jones, a 6-foot-6 center, has been a force throughout the early season. Over her last nine games, she has recorded six double-doubles, including three in her past four outings. She averaged 17.4 points and 10.4 rebounds during that span while shooting efficiently from the field. Connecticut (2-10) has lost seven of its last eight and is struggling to find consistency. The Sun dropped an 85-80 decision Friday at Chicago, their third straight defeat. Brittney Griner led Connecticut in that game with 16 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three blocks. Griner, the 6-9 center, has been the Sun’s most reliable scorer. She has reached double figures in four of her last five games, averaging 14.1 points and 5.6 rebounds over that stretch. However, Connecticut has struggled to generate offense beyond Griner, as the team ranks near the bottom of the league in scoring. The Sun’s defensive issues have been pronounced. In their past four losses, they have allowed an average of 89.3 points per game. New York, by contrast, has scored 100 or more points in two of its last three wins and is averaging 89.2 points per game for the season. The Liberty’s depth also poses a challenge. Stewart is averaging 18.4 points per game, and guard Leonie Fiebich added 14 points in the win over Toronto. New York’s bench has provided key minutes, helping the team maintain pressure on both ends of the floor. A simulation by Interstat’s game predictor projects a 106-95 Liberty win. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EDT.
