ATLANTA (Interstat) — The Atlanta Dream, riding the momentum of a 6-2 start and the explosive scoring of guard Rhyne Howard, host the Washington Mystics on Saturday at State Farm Arena. Atlanta (6-2) enters the contest after a dominant 91-75 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday. Howard poured in a game-high 36 points on 13-of-21 shooting in 37 minutes, adding two rebounds and two assists. The performance continued a strong stretch for the guard, who has averaged 24.0 points over her last two games. The Dream have won four of their last five games, with the lone blemish a 96-81 loss at Minnesota on May 27. Washington (4-4) seeks consistency after a seesaw start to the season. The Mystics are coming off a 90-72 home win over Chicago on Tuesday, powered by a double-double from forward Kiki Iriafen, who posted 15 points and 11 rebounds in 27 minutes. Center Shakira Austin added 17 points and eight rebounds. The victory snapped a two-game losing streak for Washington, which had dropped four of its previous six contests. The contrast in form is clear. While Atlanta has looked sharp, Washington has been unpredictable, splitting its first eight games. The Mystics have proven they can compete, beating Indiana in overtime on May 15 and sweeping a two-game series against Seattle last week, but they have also suffered lopsided losses to Dallas and Los Angeles. The projected starters feature Iriafen for Washington and Howard for Atlanta. Iriafen has been a consistent force in the paint, recording double-doubles in three of her last four games and averaging 15.0 points and 10.3 rebounds over that span. Howard, a two-time All-Star, remains the Dream’s primary weapon, capable of taking over a game from the perimeter. Her supporting cast, including guard Allisha Gray (26 points vs. Connecticut) and forward Angel Reese (12 points, 13 rebounds), provides Atlanta with depth. Washington will look to slow Atlanta’s pace and contain Howard, a task that has troubled opponents. The Mystics allow 87.4 points per game, slightly above the league average. The Dream, meanwhile, average 86.0 points per game at home. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 95-83 win for Atlanta. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EDT. The teams will meet again on July 1 in Washington.
