WNBA: Aces at Sparks LOS ANGELES (Interstat) — The Las Vegas Aces, carrying a 5-3 record, visit the Los Angeles Sparks at Crypto.com Arena on Tuesday night in a WNBA matchup that pits two teams moving in opposite directions. Las Vegas (5-3) enters having won two of its last three, most recently a 91-81 victory Sunday against the Golden State Valkyries. The Aces have split two meetings with the Sparks this season, losing 101-95 on May 23 before rolling to a 105-78 win on May 10. Tuesday’s game marks the third installment of the season series. A’ja Wilson, the Aces’ two-time MVP, has been the focal point. Over her last eight games, including a 45-point outburst May 15 against Connecticut, Wilson is averaging 24.8 points, 8.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists. In Sunday’s win, she logged 28 points, 15 rebounds, four assists and four blocks in 36 minutes. The 6-foot-4 center posted a 24-point, 15-rebound, four-block effort May 23 in the loss to Los Angeles. Wilson’s production has been critical as Las Vegas navigates a stretch that includes four of its next six games on the road. Los Angeles (4-4) comes off an 84-81 loss Saturday at Connecticut, dropping two of its last three. The Sparks, however, have won three of four at home. Guard Ariel Atkins, acquired in the offseason, has been a steady contributor. She scored 16 points with four rebounds and three blocks in the loss to the Sun. Atkins averaged 9.0 points over her previous six games before that outing, including an 11-point performance May 23 in the Sparks’ win over Las Vegas. Her defensive presence has been key; she recorded three steals in that victory. The Sparks also have received production from Rae Burrell and Dearica Hamby, who combined for 27 points in Saturday’s loss. Los Angeles will look to build on its best offensive showing of the season, a 101-point effort against the Aces in May. Las Vegas will aim to avoid dropping consecutive games to Los Angeles for the first time this season. The Aces’ balanced attack, featuring Jackie Young and NaLyssa Smith — who combined for 38 points and 16 rebounds Sunday — has been a factor. Young is averaging 18.2 points over the last five games. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. PDT.
