ATLANTA (Interstat) — The Atlanta Dream look to build on their strong start to the WNBA season when they host the struggling Connecticut Sun on Tuesday at State Farm Arena. Atlanta enters the game with a 5-2 record, winners of three of its last four. The Dream most recently defeated Portland 86-66 on May 29, led by forward Angel Reese’s 18 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. Reese has been a consistent force, averaging a double-double over her last seven games, with notable performances including 17 points and 10 rebounds against Phoenix on May 24. Connecticut, meanwhile, sits at 2-8 after a 84-81 win over Los Angeles on May 30 — only its second victory of the season. Forward Aneesah Morrow posted 17 points and 14 rebounds in that game, continuing a streak of strong individual play despite the team’s struggles. Morrow has recorded double-doubles in four of her last five outings, including 17 points and 16 rebounds against Seattle on May 10. The Sun have lost seven of their last nine, with close defeats to Portland (82-83 on May 18) and Las Vegas (94-101 on May 15) highlighting their difficulty in closing games. Their defense has been a major issue, allowing 97 points to Golden State on May 25 and 106 to New York on May 8. Atlanta’s balanced attack also features guards Rhyne Howard and Naz Hillmon. Howard scored 14 points in the win over Portland, while Hillmon added 14 points and seven rebounds. The Dream have scored at least 82 points in all but one game this season. Tuesday’s matchup will test Connecticut’s ability to contain Reese in the paint. Morrow, who also contributes on the boards, will need help from teammates such as guard Kennedy Burke and center Olivia Nelson-Ododa to slow Atlanta’s interior scoring. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 95-86 victory for Atlanta. The Dream are favored by 15.5 points, with an over/under of 162. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. Eastern. The game is the first of a two-game road trip for Connecticut, which visits Chicago on Friday. Atlanta heads to Indiana on Thursday.
