LAS VEGAS (Interstat) — The Minnesota Lynx aim to extend their strong start to the WNBA season when they face the Phoenix Mercury on Monday at Michelob Ultra Arena. Minnesota (6-2) enters the matchup on a four-game winning streak, most recently a 79-58 rout of the Chicago Sky on May 29. Forward Nia Coffey has been a key contributor, averaging 20 points and eight rebounds in that victory. Over her past seven games, Coffey has posted double-figure scoring five times, including a 13-point, 10-rebound double-double against Phoenix on May 12 — a game Minnesota won 88-84. Phoenix (2-7) has lost seven of its last eight contests, including a 75-68 defeat at New York on May 29. Forward Alyssa Thomas continues to be the Mercury’s most consistent performer, recording at least 15 points and seven assists in each of her last four outings. Thomas had 10 points, four rebounds and eight assists in the earlier loss to Minnesota. Monday’s game marks the second meeting between the teams this season. The Lynx prevailed 88-84 on May 12 behind Coffey’s double-double and 17 points from guard Olivia Miles. For Phoenix, Thomas and forward Natasha Mack each contributed 10 points, but the Mercury struggled to contain Minnesota’s balanced attack. The Interstat game simulator projects a tight contest, with Phoenix winning 99-97. Minnesota will begin a three-game homestand following Monday’s game, hosting Golden State on June 4. Phoenix opens a four-game road trip Wednesday at Seattle.
