WNBA: Sparks at Sun Preview UNCASVILLE, Conn. (Interstat) — The Los Angeles Sparks visit the Connecticut Sun on Saturday at Mohegan Sun Arena in a matchup of teams heading in opposite directions. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EDT. Los Angeles (3-3) carries a two-game winning streak into the contest after defeating the Las Vegas Aces 101-95 on Saturday. Connecticut (1-8) has lost seven of its last eight games, most recently falling 71-61 to the Portland Fire on Wednesday. The Sparks are projected to win 109-95, according to Interstat’s game simulator. Guard Kelsey Plum has been the engine of Los Angeles’ offense. Over her last six games, Plum has averaged 26.8 points and 6.3 assists while playing nearly 35 minutes per night. She erupted for 38 points, four rebounds and nine assists in Saturday’s win over Las Vegas, following a 16-point, seven-assist performance against Phoenix on May 21. Her scoring consistency — she has reached at least 25 points in four of her last five outings — makes her the focal point for a Connecticut defense that has struggled to contain perimeter scorers. Forward Cameron Brink added 16 points and eight rebounds in the Sparks’ most recent win, while guard Erica Wheeler contributed 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Connecticut will lean on forward Aneesah Morrow, who has been one of the few bright spots in a difficult season. Morrow recorded her fourth double-double of the year against Portland on Wednesday, finishing with 13 points and 13 rebounds in 29 minutes. She has posted double-digit rebounds in three of her last four games, including a 17-point, 16-rebound effort against Seattle on May 10. However, Morrow’s production has often been isolated — the Sun have failed to reach 70 points in five of their last seven games. Guard Charlisse Leger-Walker scored 11 points in Wednesday’s loss, and center Olivia Nelson-Ododa added four points, four rebounds and four assists. The Sun’s lone victory came May 20 in an 80-78 win at Seattle, a game in which Morrow played just seven minutes. Los Angeles concludes a two-game road trip before returning home to host Las Vegas on Tuesday. Connecticut continues a four-game homestand against Atlanta on Tuesday.
