WASHINGTON (Interstat) — The Los Angeles Sparks visit the Washington Mystics on Friday night at CareFirst Arena, with both teams seeking consistency early in the WNBA season. Los Angeles (3-3) rides a two-game win streak after a 101-95 victory at Las Vegas on Saturday. Guard Kelsey Plum led the way with 38 points, four rebounds and nine assists in 37 minutes, continuing a torrid stretch. Over her past six games, Plum has averaged 26.8 points, 5.2 assists and 2.0 rebounds while shooting at a high clip. She posted 38 points against the Aces, 27 against Toronto and 25 against Indiana, making her the focal point of Washington’s defensive game plan. The Sparks also got contributions from forward Cameron Brink (16 points, eight rebounds) and guard Erica Wheeler (10 points, seven assists) in the win over Las Vegas. Los Angeles will look to build momentum before traveling to Connecticut on Saturday. Washington (2-3) dropped its last outing, 97-85 at Seattle on Sunday, despite 16 points from guard Sonia Citron. The Mystics have struggled for consistency, alternating wins and losses. Citron has been a bright spot, averaging 19.2 points over her past five games, including a 30-point outburst in a 104-102 overtime win at Indiana on May 15. She also posted 26 points in a win at Toronto on May 8. However, Washington’s offense has been uneven, scoring just 69 points in a loss at Dallas on May 18. The Mystics need better production from their supporting cast. Guard Georgia Amoore contributed 13 points in the Seattle loss, and forward Kiki Iriafen added 13. But the team allowed 97 points to the Storm and 92 to the Wings, highlighting defensive lapses. Friday’s matchup pits two guards in top form. Plum’s scoring explosion contrasts with Citron’s all-around game. Washington will also need to contain Los Angeles’ inside presence led by Brink. The game tips off at 7 p.m. EDT.
