WNBA: Chicago Sky at Portland Fire PORTLAND, Ore. (Interstat) — The Chicago Sky open the 2026 WNBA season Saturday against the expansion Portland Fire at Moda Center, with tipoff set for 7 p.m. PDT. Chicago finished last season with a 91-86 loss to the New York Liberty on Sept. 11, 2025. Portland enters the league as the WNBA’s newest franchise, playing its first regular-season game in franchise history. Both teams carry 0-0 records into the matchup. The Sky are installed as a 3.5-point favorite, according to pregame odds. The over/under for total points is set at 158.5. Chicago’s roster returns several key contributors from a squad that narrowly missed the playoffs in 2025. The Sky face a challenging opening stretch, beginning with five consecutive road games. After Portland, Chicago travels to Golden State on May 13, Phoenix on May 15, and plays a back-to-back at Minnesota on May 16-17. The Sky’s home opener is scheduled for May 20 against Dallas. Portland’s inaugural campaign begins with a six-game homestand. Following Saturday’s debut, the Fire host New York for three straight games from May 11-14. Connecticut visits May 18 before Portland hits the road for the first time May 20 at Indiana. The Fire’s early schedule includes nine games in 21 days, with three set against the defending champion Liberty. Chicago’s last game result came Sept. 11, 2025, when the Sky fell to New York 91-86 in the regular-season finale. Portland has no prior game history as a franchise. The matchup features two teams in transition: Chicago aiming to return to contention after a losing 2025 season, and Portland building from scratch under a new coaching staff and front office. Saturday’s game marks the first meeting between the Sky and Fire. The two teams are not scheduled to meet again during the regular season. Chicago will look to establish an inside-out game behind its veteran frontcourt, while Portland will rely on perimeter shooting and tempo in its debut. The game will be broadcast regionally and streamed on the WNBA’s platform.
