SEATTLE (Interstat) — The Golden State Valkyries and Seattle Storm open the 2026 WNBA season Friday at Key Arena, each carrying a 0-0 record into the matchup. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. local time. The Valkyries closed the 2025 season with a 75-74 loss to the Minnesota Lynx on Sept. 17. The Storm, meanwhile, defeated the Las Vegas Aces 86-83 in their finale on Sept. 16. Friday’s game marks the first of a 10-game stretch for Golden State that includes five home contests. Following the opener, the Valkyries host Phoenix on May 10 before a three-game road swing through Indiana, Connecticut and Minnesota in late May and early June. Seattle also faces a busy early schedule. After Friday, the Storm travel to Connecticut on May 10, then play back-to-back games at Indiana on May 16-17. The team returns to Key Arena for a three-game homestand against Connecticut and Washington from May 20-27. Both teams enter the season with high expectations. The Valkyries, in their second WNBA season after relocating from the Bay Area, aim to build on last year’s playoff run. The Storm, perennial contenders, look to rebound from a first-round exit in 2025. Key matchups could shape the outcome. Golden State’s frontcourt, led by a veteran post presence, will face Seattle’s quick backcourt duo. The Storm’s perimeter shooting could test the Valkyries’ help defense. The teams will meet again June 12 in Seattle, part of a home-heavy stretch for the Storm in early summer. For the Valkyries, Sunday’s home game against Phoenix offers an early test of stamina. Injuries and roster moves have yet to be announced for either side. Officials said both teams are expected to field full active rosters barring late scratches. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2 and available via streaming.
