PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — The New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers meet Friday night for Game 3 of their playoff series at Xfinity Mobile Arena, with the best-of-seven affair knotted at one game apiece following a series of bizarre results. The Knicks (59-32) enter as the higher seed after blowing out the 76ers 137-98 in Game 2 on Monday. That victory came after Philadelphia stole a 62-61 decision in Game 1 on Wednesday, one of the lowest-scoring playoff games in recent NBA history. The series now shifts to Philadelphia, where the 76ers (50-41) hope to regain home-court advantage. New York guard Jalen Brunson has been the focal point of the Knicks’ offense. In Game 2, Brunson poured in 35 points on 31 minutes of action, adding three assists. Over his past five outings, he has averaged 27.6 points, including a 39-point performance against Atlanta on April 28. His scoring consistency has been critical for a Knicks team that has won seven of its last eight games. Philadelphia will lean on forward Paul George to ignite a struggling offense. George managed 17 points, three rebounds and three assists in the Game 2 loss. He showed better form in a 109-100 playoff win over Boston on May 2, logging 13 points and three rebounds in 42 minutes. However, the 76ers have been inconsistent offensively, scoring fewer than 100 points in two of their last five games. The head-to-head matchup has been lopsided lately. The Knicks have won three of the last four meetings, including a 138-89 rout at Philadelphia on Feb. 11. The 76ers did take two of the three regular-season meetings before the playoffs began. New York got strong support from Karl-Anthony Towns, who posted 17 points and six rebounds in Game 2, and OG Anunoby, who added 18 points. For Philadelphia, Tyrese Maxey and Kelly Oubre combined for 25 points in that loss, but the team shot poorly overall. History suggests a bounce-back effort from the 76ers at home, where they have been more formidable. The Interstat game simulator projects a 120-114 victory for Philadelphia, a potential return to form for a team that advanced past Boston in the first round. Game 4 is scheduled for Sunday in Philadelphia. The series will then shift back to New York for Game 5 on Tuesday. Both teams understand the swing potential of Friday’s contest, with the winner taking a crucial 2-1 series lead.
