DETROIT (Interstat) — The top-seeded Detroit Pistons host the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday night at Little Caesars Arena in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference playoff series. Detroit enters with a 64-25 record, the best in the conference, while Cleveland went 56-33. The teams split their four regular-season meetings, each winning twice on home court. The Pistons took a 122-119 overtime decision at home Feb. 27, and the Cavaliers answered with a 113-109 win in Cleveland on March 3. Both clubs advanced through the first round. Detroit eliminated Orlando in six games, finishing with a 116-94 win Sunday. Tobias Harris led the Pistons with 30 points and nine rebounds in that clincher, and he averaged 23.6 points and 7.3 rebounds over the series. Cade Cunningham posted 32 points and 12 assists in Game 6. Cleveland overcame Toronto in seven games, capped by a 114-102 victory Sunday. Center Jarrett Allen dominated with 22 points, 19 rebounds and three blocks in the deciding game. Allen averaged 14.6 points and 10.9 rebounds in the first round, including a 15-rebound outing in a losing effort April 26. The Pistons’ balanced attack also features Jalen Duren, who notched 15 points and 15 rebounds in the series clincher. Harris, a veteran forward, has been a steady scorer, posting at least 20 points in six of his past nine games. Cleveland leans on Allen’s interior presence and the playmaking of James Harden, who had 18 points and six assists in the Game 7 win. Evan Mobley contributed 13 points and seven rebounds in that game. The Cavaliers struggled offensively in losses at Toronto earlier in the series, scoring 89 and 104 points, but rebounded with 125 and 114 in wins. Defensively, Detroit held Orlando under 100 points in three of the six first-round games. The Pistons’ home-court advantage could be critical; they went 33-8 at Little Caesars Arena during the regular season. Tuesday’s matchup marks the beginning of a best-of-seven series that will continue with Game 2 in Detroit on Saturday. The winner advances to the conference finals.
