Game-time conditions are forecast as 80 degrees with cloudy skies. Colorado (51-81) sends right-hander Tanner Gordon to the mound. Gordon is 0-4 this season. Washington (62-72) had not named a starter for Wednesday. The Rockies are coming off a 3-1 win Tuesday, which evened the series after Washington’s 13-3 rout Monday. Before Tuesday, Colorado had lost eight of its previous 10 games. Washington also has struggled, having lost eight of nine before its Monday victory. One player to watch for the Rockies is Mason Adams. In Tuesday’s win, Adams allowed one earned run on three hits over four innings and struck out five. His strong outing helped Colorado’s bullpen keep Washington in check. For Washington, Brad Lord is a player to watch. Lord pitched 2.1 scoreless innings Tuesday and struck out two, though he took the loss. Lord has been inconsistent this month, allowing two earned runs in two-thirds of an inning at New York on Aug. 15, but he also has turned in scoreless appearances against Miami and Philadelphia in August. The Nationals are listed as 1.5-run favorites, and the total is 8.5 runs. Gordon will be looking for his first win of the season after taking losses in his previous starts.
