MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Boston Red Sox look to extend their winning streak Tuesday night when they continue a three-game series against the Miami Marlins at loanDepot Park. Boston, which owns a 74-59 record, beat Miami 4-2 on Monday. The Red Sox have won four straight and seven of their last nine. Miami fell to 67-65 with the loss, snapping a three-game winning streak. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with a temperature of 87 degrees. Left-hander Payton Tolle is Boston’s probable pitcher. Tolle is 8-6 with a season record that has helped anchor the middle of the Red Sox rotation. Miami had not announced its probable starter. Boston enters with the betting edge. Boston is a minus-1.5 favorite on the run line, and the over/under is set at 7.5 runs. Ranger Suarez is a player to watch for Boston. The right-hander earned the win Monday against Miami, allowing one run on four hits over five innings with four strikeouts. In his last five appearances, Suarez has allowed 12 earned runs across 23 innings, but he has won four of those decisions. He worked 5.1 innings against Arizona on Aug. 18, allowing four runs, and threw five innings at Toronto on Aug. 12, giving up one run. He also logged three innings against the Chicago White Sox on Aug. 6 and 4.2 innings at the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 31. Sandy Alcantara is the key player for Miami. He took the loss Monday despite a strong outing, allowing one run on six hits over seven innings with six strikeouts. Alcantara has been consistent in his recent starts, though wins have been hard to come by. He allowed three runs in six innings at Philadelphia on Aug. 19, one run in seven innings at Cincinnati on Aug. 14, and threw seven shutout innings against the Los Angeles Angels on Aug. 8. He also fired six scoreless innings at the New York Mets on Aug. 2. The Red Sox have been productive at the plate during their current stretch, outscoring opponents in series sweeps of San Francisco and strong showings against Arizona. Miami, meanwhile, has relied on strong starting pitching and timely hitting, but the Marlins have dropped four of their last six. Boston’s next 10 games include the remainder of this series, a trip to New York to face the Yankees, and a home set against Seattle. Miami heads to Washington after this series, then travels to Kansas City before hosting the Cubs. The two teams meet again Wednesday afternoon in the series finale before Boston moves on to the Bronx.
