DETROIT (Interstat) — Keider Montero threw 6 1/3 innings of three-hit scoreless ball and Eduardo Valencia homered as the Detroit Tigers blanked the Cleveland Guardians 3-0 on Thursday at Comerica Park. Montero improved to 9-7. Parker Messick took the loss after allowing two earned runs over 5 2/3 innings with six strikeouts, falling to 9-7. Kenley Jansen pitched a scoreless inning for his 15th save. Craig Yoho struck out two in 1 1/3 scoreless innings for Cleveland, and Tyler Holton added 1 2/3 scoreless innings for Detroit. Detroit scored single runs in the third, sixth and eighth innings. In the third, Dillon Dingler grounded out to plate Javier Báez. Valencia homered in the sixth, and Spencer Torkelson singled home Kevin McGonigle in the eighth. Torkelson went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Chase DeLauter had two of Cleveland’s four hits. Detroit finished with six hits. Attendance was 31,777, and the game lasted 2:24. Detroit improved to 61-61, while Cleveland fell to 61-64.
