SAN DIEGO (Interstat) — The Houston Astros will try to make it two straight against the San Diego Padres on Saturday afternoon at Petco Park, a day after the Astros posted a 4-0 shutout in the series opener. Houston enters at 59-57, while San Diego is 60-56. The forecast calls for 82 degrees with clouds at game time. Right-hander Hunter Brown gets the start for the Astros. Brown pitched six innings in his last outing Wednesday against Toronto, allowing three earned runs and striking out eight in a 5-4, 10-inning loss. His previous two starts were wins: 5 2/3 innings against Texas on July 31 and seven scoreless innings at the Chicago White Sox on July 25. In a July 19 loss to Baltimore, Brown allowed four earned runs in 4 2/3 innings. Jose Altuve went 2-for-5 with a home run and an RBI in Wednesday’s loss to Toronto, and Bryan Abreu struck out two in a scoreless inning of relief. San Diego counters with right-hander Walker Buehler, who has won each of his past five starts. Buehler most recently went four innings at Arizona on Thursday, allowing one run and six hits with three strikeouts in a 5-1 Padres win. He beat San Francisco on Aug. 1 in 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs, and threw 5 1/3 innings at Miami on July 26, allowing two runs. Ty France had two hits and drove in a run in Thursday’s win over Arizona. The Padres took the opener of the series Friday? Actually the Astros won 4-0 on Friday. San Diego’s lineup could not solve Houston pitching in that game. Sportsbooks have installed Houston as a 1.5-run favorite on the run line. The over/under is 7.5 runs. Interstat’s game simulator projects San Diego to win 7-6, and its Elo model gives San Diego a 54.9 percent probability of victory. The Astros have split their last four games, including losses to Toronto on Monday and Wednesday and wins Tuesday and Friday. San Diego has won two of its last three and is 5-3 in its past eight. The two teams close the series Sunday at Petco Park before Houston travels to San Francisco and San Diego hosts Milwaukee.
