KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Interstat) — The Chicago Cubs aim to keep rolling when they visit the Kansas City Royals on Saturday, Aug. 8, in the middle game of a three-game series at Kauffman Stadium. Chicago (67-49) beat Kansas City 5-2 in Friday night’s opener. The Cubs have won seven of their last 10 games and have scored at least five runs in five of their past six. Kansas City (48-68) has lost seven of its last 10. The forecast at game time calls for 83 degrees and cloudy skies. Cubs left-hander David Peterson is one player to watch. Peterson earned wins in each of his last four starts, most recently working five innings Thursday against Toronto while allowing one earned run and three strikeouts. He struck out eight over 6.1 innings against the New York Yankees on Aug. 1, and also beat St. Louis and Detroit in late July. Peterson has held opponents to two earned runs or fewer in all four outings. Royals right-hander Michael Wacha has pitched well without much support. Wacha allowed one earned run over 5.2 innings Thursday in a 4-3 loss to Minnesota. In his previous start, he gave up one run in six innings at Colorado. Over his last three starts, Wacha has a 1.93 ERA but only one win. He will need Kansas City’s offense to provide more behind him. The Cubs’ lineup has received contributions beyond the rotation. Alex Bregman went 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs in Chicago’s 3-2, 11-inning win over Toronto on Thursday. Reliever Aaron Civale pitched three innings, allowing one run, in that game. Kansas City’s bullpen showed some bright spots in Thursday’s loss. Alex Lange and Easton McGee each threw a scoreless inning, but the Royals could not complete the comeback. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-4 Cubs win. Interstat’s ELO system gives Chicago a 62 percent probability of victory. The Cubs are a -1.5 run-line favorite, and the over/under is 9.5. Saturday’s game is the second of three straight meetings between the teams in Kansas City. After Sunday’s finale, the Cubs travel to Washington for three games at the Nationals from Aug. 11-13. The Royals travel to Los Angeles to face the Dodgers from Aug. 10-12, then play three games at the Angels from Aug. 14-16. The Cubs open a homestand Aug. 14 against St. Louis, with that series followed by three games against the Chicago White Sox beginning Aug. 17. Kansas City returns home Aug. 17 to host the Athletics for three games.
