CINCINNATI (Interstat) — The Athletics will try to snap a six-game losing streak Wednesday, Aug. 5, when they face the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park. Cincinnati won Tuesday’s opener of the series 5-4. The Reds (54-58) enter as favorites with a minus-1.5 run line, and the over/under is 9.5. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-2 Reds win, and its ELO system gives Cincinnati a 61 percent chance to win. Clear skies and 85 degrees are forecast for game time. Athletics left-hander Jacob Lopez (5-4) is scheduled to start against Reds right-hander Rhett Lowder (3-7). The Athletics (45-68) have lost nine of their past 11, including six straight. They were swept in a weekend series by Detroit, capped by an 11-0 loss Sunday, and have not won since beating Boston on July 28. J.T. Ginn is a player to watch for the Athletics. Ginn took the loss Tuesday despite allowing three earned runs over six innings, with five strikeouts. In his previous outing, he threw 6 1/3 scoreless innings against Washington on July 18. He also struck out seven in 4 1/3 innings against the Chicago White Sox on July 12. Brady Singer is a key name for Cincinnati. Singer earned the win in Tuesday’s series opener, allowing three runs in six innings with six strikeouts. He also won starts at Seattle on July 22 and at Colorado on July 17, and he allowed one run over 7 1/3 innings against Philadelphia on July 9. The Reds have won seven of their past 11. The teams play the series finale Thursday, with the Athletics then heading to Boston and the Reds traveling to Washington.
