CLEVELAND (Interstat) — The New York Mets will try to make it two straight over Cleveland when they face the Guardians on Wednesday at Progressive Field. Tuesday’s series opener went to the Mets, 6-2, as catcher Luis Torrens went 3 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs. Torrens, who had been hitless in his previous two games, is a player to watch again for New York after that breakout performance. First pitch is scheduled under clear skies with temperatures near 79 degrees. The Mets bring a 48-67 record into the game, while the Guardians are 57-57. Nolan McLean (7-6) is the scheduled starter for New York. Cleveland will counter with Slade Cecconi (4-7), who allowed one earned run over 2 2/3 innings of relief in Tuesday’s loss. Cleveland’s Joey Cantillo, another pitcher to watch, struck out five and allowed two earned runs over five innings in that same game. The Mets enter as minus-1.5 run-line favorites, with the over/under set at 8. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-3 Mets victory, while Interstat’s ELO model gives Cleveland a 56 percent chance to win. The teams will close out the series Thursday at Progressive Field.
