CLEVELAND (Interstat) -- The New York Mets and Cleveland Guardians open a three-game series Tuesday night at Progressive Field, where first pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. under clear skies and 75 degrees. The Mets (47-66) are mired in a rough stretch, having lost three straight after getting blanked 2-0 by Miami on Sunday. New York managed only three hits in that loss. The Guardians (57-56) snapped a two-game skid Sunday with a 5-0 win over Arizona, behind Gavin Williams. Right-hander Robert Stock is scheduled to start for the Mets. Stock took the loss Sunday against the Marlins, allowing three hits and one earned run over five innings with four strikeouts. He will be looking to give New York length after the Mets’ bullpen covered two scoreless innings in that game. Cleveland counters with Williams, who was sharp in his last outing. Williams threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings against Arizona on Sunday, allowing one hit and striking out 10 to earn the win. He has been dominant in most recent starts despite a tough-luck record: 12 strikeouts in a loss at Cincinnati on July 28, 11 strikeouts in a no-decision against Minnesota on July 23, and 11 strikeouts in a July 17 loss to Pittsburgh. Williams has posted double-digit strikeouts in four of his last five starts. Cleveland’s offense was led Sunday by Chase DeLauter, who drove in three runs, and Cade Smith tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief. The Mets’ lineup has struggled of late, scoring two or fewer runs in four of their past six games. New York’s recent slide includes series losses to Miami and Atlanta, though the Mets did take two of three from Atlanta last week. Cleveland has been inconsistent, going 3-8 over its past 11 games. The Guardians have dropped seven of 10 at home in that span. Oddsmakers have installed Cleveland as a 1.5-run favorite, with the over/under set at 7.5. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-3 Mets victory, while Interstat’s ELO system gives Cleveland a 57.1 percent probability to win. The teams continue the series Wednesday and Thursday at Progressive Field before the Mets head to Pittsburgh and Cleveland visits the Chicago White Sox.
