WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Interstat) — The Detroit Tigers will look to complete a three-game sweep when they face the Athletics on Sunday afternoon at Sutter Health Park, where the forecast calls for 98 degrees and clear skies at first pitch. Tigers right-hander Keider Montero (7-6) is scheduled to start against Athletics left-hander Gage Jump (4-6). Detroit enters at 53-58 and has won five straight meetings in the series. After sweeping a three-game set against the Athletics in Detroit in early July, the Tigers took the first two games at West Sacramento by scores of 13-1 and 8-6. The Athletics, now 45-66, have lost five of their last six. Saturday’s 8-6 Tigers victory featured Kevin McGonigle going 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, and Max Clark going 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs. Framber Valdez earned the win, allowing two earned runs over seven innings with six strikeouts. Valdez has been a player to watch in this matchup; he also beat the Athletics on July 9, allowing one run over seven innings. Athletics center fielder Henry Bolte is the home team’s player to watch after going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs in Saturday’s loss. Bolte also singled in Friday’s 13-1 defeat. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-3 Tigers victory, and Interstat’s ELO system gives Detroit a 58.8 percent chance to win. Detroit is a 1.5-run favorite, with the over/under set at 11. The Tigers open a road trip in Seattle against the Mariners on Tuesday. The Athletics begin a series at Cincinnati against the Reds the same day.
