CHICAGO (Interstat) — The New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs bring matching 62-48 records into Saturday’s matchup at Wrigley Field, the second game of a three-game series, with rain in the forecast at first pitch and temperatures at 72 degrees. Left-hander Max Fried (4-3) is listed as New York’s probable starter. The Yankees also have left-hander David Peterson (6-7) on their probable-pitchers list for the series. Chicago had not announced a corresponding starter for Saturday. The Yankees took the opener Friday 2-0 behind a sharp outing from right-hander Will Warren, who allowed four hits over 6 2/3 innings with seven strikeouts and no earned runs. Paul Blackburn worked 1 1/3 hitless innings and David Bednar pitched a scoreless ninth for the save. Cubs left-hander Shota Imanaga was the hard-luck loser, allowing two earned runs in 6 2/3 innings while striking out six. Warren remains a player to watch for New York, though his recent results have been uneven. In his last five starts, he threw 6 2/3 scoreless innings against the Cubs, allowed six earned runs in three innings at Philadelphia on July 26, worked two scoreless innings against Pittsburgh on July 21, allowed one earned run in five innings at Washington on July 12, and gave up six earned runs in four innings at Tampa Bay on July 7. Imanaga also is a key figure for Chicago. He allowed two earned runs or fewer in four of his last five starts, including shutout outings of six innings at Pittsburgh on July 25 and seven innings against Minnesota on July 19. He did not receive run support in losses to Cincinnati on July 10 and St. Louis on July 4. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-6 Cubs victory. New York has been installed as a 1.5-run favorite on the run line, and the over/under is set at 7. Saturday’s game continues a busy stretch for both clubs. The teams finish the series Sunday at Wrigley Field, then the Yankees return home to host St. Louis on Monday, while the Cubs open a homestand against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday.
