DENVER (Interstat) — The Kansas City Royals and Colorado Rockies meet Saturday, Aug. 1, at Coors Field for the second game of their three-game series. The forecast calls for rain and 75-degree temperatures at game time. Right-hander Luinder Avila (5-3) is slated to start for Kansas City, while Colorado will counter with right-hander Ryan Feltner (3-5). The Royals enter with a 46-65 record, and the Rockies are 43-67. Colorado won Friday’s opener 3-1 behind Tomoyuki Sugano, who allowed one earned run on five hits over 6 2/3 innings. Sugano has won his last three starts, including outings against Milwaukee and Cincinnati. He struck out two and again will be a player to watch as the Rockies try to build momentum after snapping a four-game losing streak. Michael Wacha is a key player for Kansas City even though he is not scheduled to pitch Saturday. Wacha took the loss Friday despite allowing one earned run over six innings with seven strikeouts. In three of his past four starts, he has gone at least six innings and allowed one earned run, with the exception coming July 9 against the Mets, when he gave up six runs in 4 2/3 innings. Kansas City has lost two straight, including Thursday’s 4-3 setback at Minnesota, but had gone 6-4 in its previous 10 games before Friday. The Royals’ bullpen was sharp in the opener, with Nate Pearson and Easton McGee each throwing a scoreless inning. Colorado’s relievers also were effective after Sugano exited, as Jordan Romano and Antonio Senzatela combined for 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-3 Royals victory, and Interstat’s ELO model gives Kansas City a 57.8 percent probability to win. Kansas City is listed as a 1.5-run favorite, and the over/under is 12.5 runs. The series concludes Sunday afternoon at Coors Field. Kansas City will then return home to face Minnesota on Tuesday, while Colorado will host Tampa Bay on Monday.
