CHICAGO (Interstat) — The New York Yankees aim for a four-game sweep of the Chicago White Sox on Thursday evening at Guaranteed Rate Field. The Yankees (61-46) have taken the first three games of this series by a combined 16-7 margin, including a 4-0 shutout Wednesday. New York has won five of its past seven overall. Chicago (55-51), which has lost three straight, sits 4 1/2 games behind first-place Cleveland in the AL Central. Right-hander Gerrit Cole (7-5, 3.12 ERA) starts for the Yankees. He earned the win in Tuesday’s 3-2 series opener, allowing four hits and no earned runs over six innings with seven strikeouts. Over his past five starts, Cole is 2-3 with a 2.37 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 30 1/3 innings. He has not allowed an earned run in 12 innings across two starts against the White Sox this season. Left-hander Anthony Kay (6-4, 3.89 ERA) gets the ball for Chicago. He took the loss Tuesday, allowing three earned runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts. Kay has been inconsistent recently, going 2-2 with a 4.67 ERA over his past five outings. The Yankees’ offense has been productive in the series, scoring 16 runs on 28 hits. Outfielder Max Schuemann drove in two runs Tuesday, and reliever Angel Chivilli has not allowed a run in his past three appearances. Infielder Chase Meidroth homered for the White Sox in Tuesday’s loss. The Interstat game simulator projects a 7-4 Yankees victory. New York is a -1.5 run favorite, with the over-under set at 8. Following the series, the Yankees travel to Wrigley Field for a three-game set against the Chicago Cubs beginning Friday. The White Sox open a three-game series at Tampa Bay on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. CDT with clear skies and a game-time temperature of 78 degrees.
