CINCINNATI (Interstat) — The Cleveland Guardians and Cincinnati Reds conclude their two-game interleague series Wednesday at Great American Ball Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with a temperature of 78 degrees. Cleveland (56-53) enters with a .514 winning percentage, 5.5 games behind the Kansas City Royals in the American League Central. The Guardians took the series opener 6-5 on Monday, snapping a four-game losing streak. Cincinnati (49-57) sits fourth in the National League Central, 12 games back of the Milwaukee Brewers. First baseman Kyle Manzardo will be a key player for Cleveland. Manzardo went 1-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs in Monday’s win, lifting his OPS to .743. Over his past 10 games, he is batting .240 (6-for-25) with two homers and six RBIs. He had multi-hit performances July 22 (3-for-5, HR, 2 RBIs) and July 20 (1-for-1 as a pinch hitter). Over his past 10 games, he is hitting .324 (11-for-34) with three homers and 12 RBIs. He has reached base safely in eight of those contests. The Guardians have won four of the past five meetings between the clubs, including a 10-3 victory May 17 at Progressive Field. The Reds took the series opener May 15 in Cleveland, 7-6. Cincinnati starter Chase Burns allowed one earned run over five innings, striking out four, but did not factor in the decision. The Interstat game simulator projects a 6-3 Cincinnati victory. Despite that, Cleveland has been installed as a -1.5 run-line favorite. The over/under is set at 9 runs. The Guardians open a six-game homestand Friday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Reds conclude their homestand Thursday with the first of four games against the Pittsburgh Pirates. First-pitch weather: 78 degrees, clouds.
