DETROIT (Interstat) — The Baltimore Orioles and Detroit Tigers open a three-game series Monday night at Comerica Park, with both teams seeking to climb out of the bottom of their respective divisions. Baltimore (51-55) enters as a -1.5 run favorite in Interstat’s game simulator, which projects a 7-5 Orioles victory. The over/under is set at 8.5 runs. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. under a forecast of 86 degrees and rain. Right-hander Shane Baz (0-4, 3.68 ERA) will start for Baltimore. In his most recent outing Sunday against Atlanta, Baz took a 3-2 loss, allowing one earned run on six hits over 4 1/3 innings with two strikeouts. He has not earned a win since July 12 against Kansas City, when he struck out nine over 4 2/3 innings. Over his last five starts, Baz has a 3.29 ERA with 26 strikeouts in 28 innings. Detroit counters with left-hander Framber Valdez (6-8, 4.70 ERA). Valdez lasted only two-thirds of an inning in his most recent start July 21 at Chicago, allowing six earned runs on five hits. He bounced back from that outing with five innings of two-run ball Sunday against Kansas City, taking a 5-4 loss. Valdez had his best start July 9, throwing seven innings of one-run ball against Oakland with nine strikeouts. The Tigers (50-56) dropped a 5-4 decision to Kansas City on Sunday. Relievers Ty Madden and Brenan Hanifee each tossed scoreless innings. Detroit has lost four of its last five. The Orioles lost 3-2 in 11 innings Sunday to Atlanta. Relievers Albert Suárez and Josh Walker combined for 3 2/3 scoreless innings. These teams last met May 22-24 in Baltimore, with Detroit taking two of three. The Orioles won the most recent meeting, 5-3, on May 24. After Monday’s series opener, the teams play Tuesday and Wednesday at Comerica Park. Baltimore then returns home for six games against Philadelphia and the Los Angeles Angels, while Detroit heads to Oakland for three games followed by three in Seattle.
