Right-hander Shane Bieber (3-1 in his last five starts) is scheduled to start for Toronto. Bieber is coming off a win against Tampa Bay on Thursday in which he allowed one earned run on three hits over seven innings with three strikeouts. The outing followed a six-inning, shutout performance against the Chicago White Sox on July 18. Bieber has quality starts in three of his last four appearances. Right-hander Brayan Bello gets the nod for Boston. Bello took a no-decision in his last start Wednesday against Baltimore, throwing 5 1/3 scoreless innings with four hits allowed and five strikeouts. He earned a win July 12 at the New York Mets, allowing one earned run over 4 1/3 innings. BOSTON BATS LOOK TO REVERSE TREND The Blue Jays have dominated the season series against the Red Sox, winning five of six meetings. Toronto swept a three-game set at Fenway Park from June 16-18, outscoring Boston 13-4. The Blue Jays have won four straight overall in the matchup. Boston enters the game having dropped two of three to the Orioles, including a 5-1 loss Wednesday. The Red Sox have won six of their last 10 games but have been inconsistent offensively. Toronto snapped a five-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Tampa Bay on Thursday, avoiding a sweep. The Blue Jays had lost eight of their previous nine games entering that contest. ODDS AND OUTLOOK Boston is a minus-1.5 favorite, according to Interstat. The over/under is set at 8.5 total runs. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-3 final score in favor of the Red Sox. The game is the opener of a three-game series between the American League East rivals. The teams will meet again Saturday and Sunday at Fenway Park.
