MLB Preview: Athletics at Diamondbacks PHOENIX (Interstat) — The Arizona Diamondbacks host the Oakland Athletics on Monday night at Chase Field, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:40 p.m. PDT. Arizona (51-48) enters the contest winners of five of its last six games, including a dramatic 8-7, 10-inning victory over St. Louis on Sunday. Shortstop Geraldo Perdomo drove in two runs with a home run in that win. Perdomo has been a consistent presence in the lineup, with hits in four of his last five games. The Diamondbacks will send a starting pitcher to the mound who has helped anchor a staff that has posted a 3.68 ERA over the past week. Arizona is 7-3 in its last 10 games. Oakland (42-57) is coming off a 5-2 loss to Washington on Sunday and has dropped nine of its last 10 contests. The Athletics will start left-hander Jeffrey Springs (3-9, 4.89 ERA), who has struggled to find consistency this season. In his last outing, Springs allowed four earned runs over five innings in a loss to Boston. A player to watch for Oakland is reliever Jacob Lopez, who tossed 4 1/3 innings of two-run ball against the Nationals on Sunday, striking out six. Lopez has been a bright spot in a bullpen that has a 5.12 ERA over the last week. The Diamondbacks have been strong at home, going 26-22 at Chase Field this season. Arizona is averaging 5.1 runs per game at home. The Athletics, meanwhile, are 19-30 on the road and have been outscored 302-225 away from Oakland. The team is batting .234 collectively, 28th in the majors. Monday’s game is the first of a three-game series. Arizona is projected as a -1.5 favorite on the run line, with an over/under of 9 runs. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-0 Arizona victory. Following this series, the Diamondbacks travel to St. Louis for a four-game set, while the Athletics head to Minnesota for three games.
