WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Interstat) — The Washington Nationals visit the Oakland Athletics on Saturday at Sutter Health Park, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The Nationals (48-49) send right-hander Zack Littell (7-6, 3.82 ERA) to the mound against Athletics right-hander J.T. Ginn (7-6, 4.15). Littell has won two of his last three starts, allowing three earned runs over 14 innings. Ginn, acquired from the Mets last winter, has pitched to a 3.28 ERA over his past five outings. Players to watch Nationals right-handed pitcher Cade Cavalli — who worked six innings of two-run ball in a 5-3 loss to the Yankees on July 12 — has been inconsistent. His last five starts: a dominant seven-inning, one-hit shutout at Boston on June 30 (13 strikeouts), but also a 2.1-inning, six-hit outing against Pittsburgh on July 5. Cavalli is 2-2 with a 4.91 ERA over that span. Athletics catcher Shea Langeliers is hitting .208 with 12 homers. He had a home run and an RBI in a 9-1 loss to the White Sox on July 12, but has gone 2-for-22 in his last six games. Langeliers has struck out 14 times in that stretch. Recent results Washington dropped a three-game series to the Yankees, losing 5-3 on Sunday. The Nationals have lost six of their past seven. Oakland has lost seven straight — all on the road — after being swept in Chicago by the White Sox (9-1, 1-0, 14-1) and Detroit (4-1, 6-1, 6-2). The Athletics are 2-13 this month. Simulation and betting Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-1 win for Washington, but sportsbooks have installed Oakland as a 1.5-run favorite. The over/under is 10 runs. Upcoming The two teams meet again Sunday in the series finale, then Washington travels to Colorado for three games while Oakland heads to Arizona for three. Both clubs begin homestands July 24 — Washington hosting Arizona, Oakland hosting Boston. Additional notes Washington’s J.T. Ginn (7-6) — listed as a probable pitcher earlier in the week — is not expected to start Saturday, with the team opting for Littell. Ginn may be used out of the bullpen or could start Sunday. The Athletics have scored two or fewer runs in 12 of their past 15 games.
