Red Sox host Rays in pivotal AL East matchup BOSTON (Interstat) — The Tampa Bay Rays visit the Boston Red Sox on Saturday evening at Fenway Park, seeking to rebound from a doubleheader sweep at the hands of their division rivals. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. under cloudy skies and a temperature of 79 degrees. Tampa Bay (56-39) will send left-hander Patrick Sandoval to the mound. Sandoval, who has not recorded a decision this season with an 0-0 record, will be making his first appearance against the Red Sox this year. The Red Sox (47-48) counter with left-hander Jake Bennett, who has been dominant in recent outings. Bennett has won his past four decisions, including a six-inning, one-hit shutout performance against the Rays in Friday’s 10-0 victory. Over his last five starts, Bennett has allowed just three earned runs in 32 ⅔ innings, striking out 25. Friday’s twin bill was lopsided: the Red Sox won the opener 4-3 before taking the nightcap 10-0. Boston has won three of the past four meetings after dropping three straight at Tampa Bay in June. Rays two-way player Ben Williamson could be a factor. In Friday’s nightcap, Williamson pitched a scoreless inning with two hits allowed. At the plate, he is 8-for-23 with two RBIs over his past seven games, including a 4-for-4 day with an RBI against Seattle on July 11. For Boston, catcher Carlos Narváez went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs in Friday’s rout. The betting line favors Tampa Bay by 1.5 runs, with the over/under set at 9.5. The Interstat game simulator projects a 7-5 final in favor of Boston. Tampa Bay continues its road trip Sunday before traveling to Toronto. Boston remains home to face Baltimore on Monday.
