CLEVELAND (Interstat) β€” The Cleveland Guardians host the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday at 7:10 p.m. at Progressive Field in a matchup of two teams separated by one game in the standings. Right-hander Gavin Williams (10-4, 3.12 ERA) is scheduled to start for Cleveland. The Pirates will counter with right-hander Jared Jones (1-1, 4.50 ERA). First pitch temperature is forecast at 79 degrees with clear skies. Cleveland (51-46) enters the game following a 5-2 win Sunday at Miami, in which left-hander Joey Cantillo (5.0 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 9 K) earned the victory. Cantillo, who will not start Friday, has posted a 1.80 ERA over his past three outings. Shortstop Brayan Rocchio drove in two runs Sunday and is hitting .275 on the season. Pittsburgh (50-47) arrives after a 14-5 rout of Milwaukee on Sunday. Rookie sensation Paul Skenes struck out seven over 5.1 innings, allowing two earned runs. Skenes has won two of his last three starts despite a 7.20 ERA over that span, and he remains a player to watch for the Pirates. Catcher Henry Davis went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs in that game, and designated hitter Marcell Ozuna added two hits and two RBIs. The Pirates have won six of their last 10, including three consecutive victories to close the homestand against the Brewers. Cleveland has won six of its last nine and split a four-game series at Minnesota before sweeping two games in Miami. Friday’s game is the first of a three-game interleague series. Pittsburgh then travels to New York for three games against the Yankees, while Cleveland returns home to host Minnesota for four games next week. The Interstat game simulator projects a 7-6 Pirates victory. Cleveland is installed as a -1.5 run favorite. The over/under is 7.5 runs.
