SAN FRANCISCO (Interstat) — Two last-place teams in the NL West meet Sunday evening at Oracle Park, where the San Francisco Giants play host to the Colorado Rockies in the finale of a four-game series. The Giants (40-55) have taken two of the first three, including a 4-2 win on Saturday. A win Sunday would give San Francisco a series victory against a Rockies club that owns the worst record in the National League at 39-58. Right-hander Tyler Mahle (7-8, 4.12 ERA) gets the start for San Francisco. Mahle was sharp in Saturday’s victory, allowing one earned run on five hits over seven innings with four strikeouts. That outing was a bounce-back effort after he lasted just 4⅓ innings in a loss at Colorado on July 5. Colorado will counter with left-hander Kyle Freeland (5-10, 5.93 ERA). Freeland also pitched Saturday, taking the loss after surrendering four earned runs on six hits over six innings. He struck out nine but allowed two home runs. Freeland has been inconsistent over his past five starts, posting a 3-2 record but a 6.14 ERA in that span. Saturday’s game also featured key contributions from role players. Giants third baseman Casey Schmitt homered and drove in three runs. Rockies third baseman Kyle Karros went 1 for 4 with a solo home run. The forecast at first pitch calls for 68 degrees and cloudy skies. San Francisco enters as a -1.5 run line favorite, and the over/under is set at 8.5 runs. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-4 Giants victory. After the series, the Rockies head home for a six-game homestand beginning July 17 against Cincinnati. The Giants travel to Seattle that same day for a three-game set. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. PDT.
