SAN FRANCISCO (Interstat) — The San Francisco Giants host the Colorado Rockies on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Oracle Park in a matchup of two teams with nearly identical records and a chance to escape the NL West basement. San Francisco enters at 38-54, one game ahead of Colorado’s 38-55 mark. The Giants have dropped four of their last five, including a 10-0 shutout Wednesday against Toronto. The Rockies are coming off a 4-3 win Tuesday at Los Angeles and have taken two of three from the Giants in their last series, played July 3-5 at Colorado. Right-hander Michael Lorenzen (3-1 in his last five starts) will go for the Rockies. Lorenzen earned the win Tuesday against the Dodgers, allowing two earned runs over six innings with five strikeouts. He also beat the Giants in that July 5 game at Coors Field, though he is 2-1 with a 3.18 ERA over his last three outings. For the Giants, right-hander Logan Webb (1-3 in his last five starts) will take the mound. Webb was roughed up in his last two outings, allowing five earned runs over seven innings in Wednesday’s loss to Toronto and giving up seven earned runs on 11 hits in just three innings July 3 against Colorado. However, Webb threw seven scoreless innings against Atlanta on June 27 and has posted two quality starts in his last five. The two clubs just met in a three-game series at Colorado, with the Rockies winning the opener 15-3 on July 3 before the Giants rebounded for a 6-4 win July 4. Colorado took the finale 7-6 on July 5. The Giants have won three of six meetings this season. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-5 Giants victory. Thursday begins a three-game set between the teams at Oracle Park. Both clubs remain in last place in the division but are separated by just one game in the standings.
